As we look toward the wonder of Easter, let's remember that we have the BEST NEWS in the world, and there may be people in our lives who are simply waiting for an invitation to Jesus...how will they know unless we tell them? Easter is a great time to invite someone who might not normally come to church on another Sunday––so put forth your maximum effort and call, text, smoke signal, carrier pigeon––whatever it takes to get your people there! Acts follows the work of Jesus' spirit after His ascension and the story of the movement of people He inspired. LUKE-ACTS IS ONE GOSPEL ACCOUNT WHICH TELLS OF THE CLIMAX OF THE BIBLE'S OVERALL NARRATIVE. These books catalog the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, the Savior to whom all of the Old Testament prophecies pointed. Just as importantly, the Gospel also takes great care to point out how Christ fulfilled Old Testament prophecies. LUKE AND ACTS ARE ACTUALLY TWO ACCOMPANYING WORKS BY THE SAME AUTHOR. Luke-Acts is just one of four different books that recount the Gospel of Jesus. No other part of the Bible uses four different books to tell the same story. While it is true that the Gospels all repeat the same basic story, one right after the other, each telling of the story is different, not in the facts presented, but in the perspective from which they are told. We have chosen Luke-Acts as it gives us one of the most unified stories that doesn't end with Jesus' life, but follows it into the movement of people who followed Him. Luke was a highly educated physician, a Gentile, and a skilled storyteller; Matthew was a tax collector — the lowest of the low in Jewish society — but more importantly, he was an author who takes special care to show the historical and prophetic significance of Christ; Mark attempts to show the power of Jesus and prove that He is the Messiah; and John chooses to focus more on spiritual themes that Christ's life presents rather than the historical significance. AN EPIC CLIMAX TO AN EPIC STORY. Together, these four books serve as everything the Old Testament has been leading to and lay the foundation for everything that is to come. You will find that Luke, like all the gospel accounts, details the truths that serve as the basis for all Christianity, providing us today with a comprehensive account of the life and teachings of the most important figure to ever walk the earth — Jesus Christ.
